Lots of new anime got subbed in the past week, so it looks like the season is finally starting to pick up. So far the only new shows I've stuck with have been Fate/Stay Night (still awesome) and Kashimashi (squee!), so hopefully these are going to make things a bit more interesting.
REC - Aka is made of win and god, and the show ain't half bad either. ^^ This is a seinen love comedy, focusing on the relationship between a hapless sarariman and a budding voice actress. Things run at a very brisk pace (the episodes are only 15 minutes long and there are only 9 slated), which is pretty refreshing after years of molasses-paced shounen rabukome. I'm very impressed by just how far things have gotten by the end of the first episode. Definitely looking forward to more of this coming out and in the meantime I'll have to dig up the manga it's based on.
Ergo Proxy - No clue how the subbers have managed to get their hands on the first ep this early, since the show isn't due to start airing until the 25th, guess I don't ask and they don't tell. At any rate, what I've seen so far definitely has me waiting for more. The story is set in a dystopian future city populated by humans and androids, told from the point of view of Ril, a badass inspector for the government, and Iggy, her android partner. Has a bit of an Appleseedish feel to it, with shades of Blade Runner thrown in for extra grit. Would be interesting to see if the plot goes anywhere, or if it gets mired in complexity.
Binchou-tan - One of those cute relaxing anime where nothing happens, and looks damn good while at it. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but if you managed to stay awake through the Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou OAVs and don't mind ultra-moe SD character designs, this may well be the show for you. Personally, I'd rather have gotten 15 more minutes of REC (the two air in the same half-hour segment, for some bizarre reason).
