| "Looking Back on MMORPGs" by Totaku (2006-08-10) |
Well, my Summer Classes are over and I can finally have some rest for the next two weeks. First off I wanted to note that Yesterday was my Birthday....I personally am a little surprised the that we haven't celebreate here I also notice that everyone missed out on Romy's Birthday as well (it was in June I think) It sorta make me wonder what's going on with the board these days... Are we just too busy (everyone's gotta grow up someday) But that's not really anything of my major concern right now. ^^; I'll probably bring stuff up on this in a later topic...
Anyways, today I thought I would discuss about MMORPGs I've played beforehand. The reason why I bring it up is because recently there's been new waves of them coming out and most of them seem very promising. Now I may not be a big time WoW addict. But I have played a good share of MMORPG out there (mainly Korean ones). Anyways, I'm going to go through the list and explain my thoughts on them.
Ragnarok Online Now this one is sort of an oldy but still a goody. I'm pretty certain almost everyone heard of this one sometime during thier ventures on the web. I personally found it a very entertaining game. RO is pretty much a more classic example of an MMORPG. Start off as a Rookie, train, level up, get a new class, meet friends, ect. The one thing that makes RO interesting is the clever us of using community as it's method to drag in player. It's where I've met a good precentage of freinds before hand. If you haven't played it you might want to look into thought it's only 15 days free...then it's about $15 a month. ^^ Good game, just got to have the money to play it. It does however feel like a Grindfest after a while....and to me..I feel you'd have to be insane to go for Second Advance class.
TalesWeaver This little Korean hit was pretty popular for it's time, and it's still doing pretty good. I've played the Korean version before and found it very amusing, nice details, nice interface, beautiful music, cool enimies...too bad they never brought it to the US though...then again, some of the most interesting MMO's from Korea don't usually make it here...
Mabinogi This is another MMORPG that I considered to be full of Godliness and awsome. This game is basiclly what you do if you take Ragnarok and add Harvest Moon elements to it. You start out constructing a charater based on who he is, how old he start, ect..then you go around and learn how to make a living in life, like (make food, hunt animals, chop wood, ect.) You can pretty much make a living through farming, fighting animals or monster, ect..and you charater grows over time as well. There's really too much to explain about that game...as of now there is no word if this will come to the US or not yet. I personally hope it does..
Maple Story Now I've heard about this game and I played it before..but for some sad reason I could never get into it...It's preobably because of the extermly awkwardness it has. So strange and bizzare and for some reason it didn't grab me....But it's basiclly an Action MMORPG. Fun, but only if you can get into it.
Goonzu Ugghh....This game I have really deep mixed feelings of. This game has a very unique system which sort of interest me cause it could become something rather deep. You basiclly start off as some newbie and make some sort of living. You can become a Manufacutrer, a polotician, a warrior, a craftsman, ect... I haven't gotten deep into the game yet..but I really really dislike the deisign and the graphics....they are a major turn off. And the animation looks cheap and wonky as well. Running around beating up cheaply aninmated rabbits and raccons sort turns me off for some reason. But anyways, if you can get past it's "ugliness" the game seems sorta fun (though as of right now I'm having difficulty managing my money.^^;)
Trickster This game just recently came to Amercia and yeah if any have followed it, we know of the delays it had and the limited access to the game it had...but from what I've seen of it....This is definetly America's answer to the hoping for a TalesWeaver type RPG. This game has everything that game had, plus RO, plus more. It's very beautiful, and colorful, it's full of life and lots of lovely design to it. Plus there are so many different ways to level your charater as well giving you tons of things to do. In a way, it makes grinding fun. I've only begun to play this but already I feel I could be hooked to this one...I just wonder..can it keep the fun going? And oh yeah..hopefully I can drop these Racoon ears and tale soon
But yeah this pretty much covers the MMOs I've played. The only reason I did not bring up FLyff or Yougurting is because I brought them up in previous rants.
This will cover all I need to discuss for today, and if any are interested in droping by to see in in these games feel free to try Goonzu or Trickster (I'll most likely be on Trickster though)
Till next time
Ja Matta ^_^
