"Laika 58" by Akira
(2006-10-23)

I'll try finishing the comic strip

  1. Code Geass #3 (A+)
Character design of Lelouch is rather Clamp's villain (dark-hero) type design, on the other hand, Suzaku's design is Clamp's good/pure hero type. It was cool that Lelouch's power is quite limited (can use the power only once per person). Otherwise he will have too much power and can do anything he want. He uses his clever mind/thinking to solve most problems, just like Light from "Death Note".

  2. Busou Renkin #3 (A-)
I enjoyed "Mahiro~ (his sister's), lend me your school uniform/sport wear" jokes. Both kazuki and Mahiro are honest, but stupid (in a good way).^_^; Tokiko-san's, heroine's, voice is done by Eruru (from "Utawarerumono"). Wow, what a difference...

  3. Asatteno Houkou #3 (A-)
    This episode explained about Shouko and Hiro's (+Karada's) past. Story started to flow well again (unlike 2nd episode). I love this kind of story, as most people can guess ^_^;

  4. Pumpkin Scissors #4 (A-)
Very solid story telling. I love zero distance shot

  5. Kekkaishi #1 (B+)
I was following this manga since it started in "Sunday", so I'm expecting a lot on this series. Character design, story, animation are very solid and high quality. I was very impressed.

  6. Red Garden #3 (B+)
Opening animation of this anime is very beautiful. it's like i-pod advertisement meets "Gankutsuou". I personally think the mysterious woman (boss of underground organization?) should fully explain the situation to the main four characters from the first episode... Geez, why do they give out the information little by little?

  7. Kiniro no Corda #4 (B-)
Nothing bad about this episode... The first contest is about to begin.

  8. Black Blood Brothers #4 (B)
I kind of enjoyed the blood sucking scene and the sense sharing (resonance) setting. But, I wonder why don't main characters kill the villain quicker? They always give time for the boss to give his speech? Sigh...

  9. Negima!? #3 (B-)
I still like the opening sequence. I wish Eva didn't use that ice magic in this episode, since it was one of the best scenes in Negima manga. Anyway, I like how creators compose the scenes. It's very entertaining/stylish.

  10. Galaxy Angel Rune #3 (C+)
Animation and cheesy jokes are very well made, but I still like old Galaxy Angel... I don't know why...

  11. Super Robot Taisen OG #3 (C-)
I personally think there are too many characters in this anime... ^_^; They need to spend like 20 episodes just to introduce main characters. In fact, they spent this episode to introduce third main character... Although it wasn't too bad.

"So many shows, so little time" by Konstantin
(2006-10-24)

Disgaea 2 ate my soul. Luckily I did manage to see a bit more of the new season between Item World dives.

Asatte no Houkou - My second favorite show so far this season, after Kanon. The look is nice and retro, the background music is about as good as it gets without I've Sound getting involved, and the pace is nicely relaxed without being sleep-inducing. The plot concept is rather neat, and I like the way they've been handling the characters' reactions so far. After watching the first couple of episodes, you'll be left scratching your head pondering the age-old question: is this loli?

Sumomomomomomo - A wacky sex comedy. With ninjas. Very energetic, cute, and on occasion actually funny. Reminds me a bit of Ranma, though (for once this season) no gender bending is involved.

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge - A bit conflicted about this series. On one hand, Watanabe Shinichi's direction is clearly visible, and the gags are plentiful, amusing, and warped. On the other hand, this show features some of the ugliest bishounen this side of Bronze, and the plot revolves around the female protagonist's unattractiveness, so there's no eye candy to be had. Considering the generally low-budget-looking animation (not quite Musashi quality, but still light years behind Ouran), the humor is really all this show has going for it, and it remains to be seen whether Nabeshin will manage to keep it coming fast enough and funny enough to last through the whole run of the anime.

Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru - A girly-looking (and sounding, and acting) guy gets sent to an all-girls' school, wacky hijinks ensue. The content is fluffy and fanservicey, and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere other gender-bending or girls'-school anime haven't gone before, but the characters are cute as hell (even the I-can't-believe-it's-got-penis protagonist), and the animation quality is decent enough. The show scores extra points for judicious use of SD.

Happiness! - You know your harem anime is in trouble when the cutest character is a trap. Watarase Jun is about the only thing this show has going for it, since everything else is pretty much a generic paint-by-numbers harem rehash, with mediocre animation and boring character designs to boot.
