"Laika 63" by Akira
(2006-11-13)

Things I worked very hard in today's comic strip (and last strip too):

  • Pencil shading. Example: size varying squares for shade gradiation.
  • Soft touch/feeling on Laika drawing. I concentrated especially on her eyes and hair.
  • At least one panel describing current situation/location/background.
Things I didn't do well:
  • A lot of panels with close-ups. Overall composition is not very interesting.
  • Laika's face keep changing, because I referenced many different manga sources -_-; I'm still studying.
  • Very few important information/facts per page. This trend will continue for a while.

Here is a list of anime I watched while I worked on today's (and Friday's) comic strip.

TitleDay1234567
Black Blood BrothersMon DCB-BBB+B+
Conflict between three forces and additional force "Kowloon Child" is very interesting story-wise.
Giniro no OlynssisMon CD+D+C-C-
Nothing much going on, but I like the sub-characters better.
Kiniro no CordaMon B-B-BB-BB-B-
Sometimes it's interesting to see what man's action/situation turns girl's moe feelings.
KekkaishiMon B+A-A- AA
Again, story is very solid, but somehow voice of Yurina sounded very strange to me...
Tokimeki Memorial Only LoveTue CCCCCC+B-
I feel rather sorry for Kasuga-san. Accidental confession is a basic technique in lov-sim games.
Pumpkin ScissorsTue A-A-A-A-A-A-B+
It seems like this was one of the filler episodes.
Red GardenWed B-BB+?B-?
Missed it -_-;
Ghost HuntWed AAB+BA-B+
So Naru is onmyou-ji?
Yamato Nadeshiko ShichihengeWed AB+B+B+B+B
"Road to Kajio" four times in a row. It was quite cool.
Busou RenkinWed B+A-A-AAA
Shishio!? This episode, Papiyon finally transformed and the next episode Captain Bravo comes in. I'm so happy.
Negima!?Thu CBB-B-B-B-
Having three cards (rare, normal, miss) per character might become interesting, if it's used right. Very strong character might draw miss card and she becomes useless in the battle.
Souten no KenThu B-C+CB-C+C+
They talk a lot before/during a battle. It's like WWF.
Super Robot Taisen OGThu C-C-C-D+D+D+
So many robots, so many characters. It's getting difficult to track what's going on.
Asatteno HoukouFri BB-A-A-AA
I've granced through manga, but it was different from anime. It seems like anime rearranged story and setting a bit. I missed the second half since time schedule was shifted by 20 minutes.
Sumomomo momomoFri B+B-B-B+B+B+
I missed 15 minutes because of AFC Asia Youth Soccer "Japan vs South Korea" pushed the schedule?c
009-1Fri B-BB+B+B+B+
Each episode is generic/normal, but very well executed.
Hataraki ManFri AA-A-A+A+
Ouch. Again story hurts/touches, if you've worked at company for years?c The OP music is sung by PUFFY. Both OP and ED musics are stuck in my head. I like this anime.

"Figurines" by Konstantin
(2006-11-14)

Been a rather busy week, with travel this weekend and preparations for more travel over the next two weeks, so I've been falling behind on the anime. Haven't even had a chance to dig into Tsukihime yet, and I'm starting to get a sinking suspicion that I may end up spending my entire vacation in Russia clicking through the visual novel instead of visiting old friends and extended family.

If that wasn't bad enough, my descent into ever deeper geekdom continues with my first PVC figurine purchase. And while scrambling to grab the KOS-MOS figurine before it went forever out of stock (which it did days later), I couldn't help but get mesmerized by some others. Whoever thought up the idea of anthropomorphizing the T-34 as a cute girl is a sick, sad, evil genius of a man. One who will be getting my money shortly. I just hope that this is merely a momentary lapse of reason on my part, and not a full-blown case of figurine fandom. I'm running short on shelf space as it is.

Also, if you've missed Totaku's rant last week, check out Marisa Stole My Precious Thing. It will break your head, it did mine.
