"Rants" by Akira
(2001-10-28)

"Noir" is an anime about two female kick-ass assassins who kill everyone they meet (it's a joke). In order to understand today's comic strip, you have to watch a couple of episodes of "Noir". Then, you will definitely understand what I am talking about (smile).

"Noir" has a couple of great musics. I like the music box music (I don't know the name) which is used very often in flashbacks and sad scenes. Two fighting scene musics "salva nos" and "canta per me" are awesome. Anime is very nicely drawn, but I have to say the story is slow as "Dragon Ball Z". Anyway, I am really enjoying watching "Noir" at my anime club, Vermillion. Thanks, Konstantin.

Today's comic strip has different look than usual. That is because rather than scanning pen work, I scanned the pencil work. One of the advantage of using pencil is you can erase your mistake. Also lines drawn by pencil are much more dynamic than lines drawn by pen (for beginners like me). The disadvantage of pencil is pages can get dirty very very easily (if you are messy drawer like me). The excess lines look really bad too (if you tend to draw multiple lines like me). Also if you are planning to color using computer, It's much easier to work with inked work (easier to get rid of dirts and make lines beautiful). Also if you become really really expert in inking (like those manga artists), pen are much better than pencil (maybe except for "Blade of the Immortal"). That's why I'm practicing on inking eventhough I'm not good at using pen yet.

(It is very obvious but ) Most of my friends at CMU say they like my pencil works better... That is very discouraging and sad comment to hear. An inked work truely shows how good you are. Since pen can express so much information and emotion (thickness, speed, darkness), the lines can become extremely bad or extremely good depending on your drawing level. Their comments are indirectly saying that I suck at drawing (sob.. sob..). Anyway my current goal is to master inking so my friends will like my inked works too. I'm pretty sure that will take years (sigh)...

I was planning to add one more punch line for the last panel, but I decided not too (because I was lazy). Candidates were "Geez, tea got cold...", "Nice work Kirika. You dragged 2 minutes of the show. We need to do that for 5 more times", or going to the infinite loop of flashbacks (to beginning of the comic) again and again and again. I came up with so many jokes for "Noir". "Noir" is such an easy show to make fun of. I love it :)
