"Machiko Sakuragi chibi version" by Romy
(2010-10-03)

Hi TsuChan fans,

Well, it's already close to midnight, end of Sunday. I wasn't able to finish the Machiko Sakuragi drawing today. So I've done a chibi version of her instead.

As you can see, she's wearing kimono and hakama, but she's wearing boots! It was fashionable back then to mix traditional Japanese clothes with Western accessories like ribbons and boots. Male students preferred to wear western shirts under their kimonos, too. And older guys wore western hats while wearing kimono (they cut their hair short).

It must have been a very interesting sight when you walked down the streets of Yokohama in the Meiji Era...

See you next time.
