| "Concentration Fades Away" by Akira (2010-08-31) |
I was able to draw first two frames well. Lines ran very smoothly and beautifully. I had a difficult time drawing the third panel. I redrew many times to figure out the best positioning and pauses for them. The flowers covered up some of the badly drawn parts. The fourth panel, I was too tired and lost concentration. But since fourth panel is usually a punch line, frequently it ends up in a comedy touch. I don't need to draw very very seriously, which is nice. Concentration goes like 100% -> 100% -> 80% -> 40%.

| "Looking into Touhou with detail ? Rumia" by Totaku (2010-08-31) |
Today we will turn focus on one of the bosses and one of the many interesting youkai that make up the world of Gensokyo. The first boss of the of Embodiement of the Scarlet Devil.
Rumia
In Gensokyo there is always bound to be danger that comes even though the land is sealed off from the outside world. I will now introduce to you on of the many youkai that make up Gensokyo. Rumia, the youkai of the darkness.
Rumia, despite looking like a cute little girl, Rumia is actually a youkai and thus is feared by humans. Her main ability is being able to manipulate the darkness. And thus roams around looking to catch unwary humans that get lost in the darkness.
As expected, Rumia's diet mainly consist of comsuming humans and she mainly roams about looking for an oprotunity (even if she's poor at it).
In EoSD, she mainly confronts Reimu and Marisa along their way while they begin to investigate. Course when they finally confront her hilarity insues as they mainly talk about where she can find food or make fun of the fact that her arms stretched out make her look like a cross. But soon afterward Rumia decides that she has enough and decides to take on Reimu and Marisa in spellcard combat. In which she was soon defeated.
After the events on EoSD most of the time there's been mainly just sighting reports of her here and there as she has a tendency to stick out like a sore thumb.
While Rumia is a youkai she still has her comical charm as she mainly comes across as sort of an idiot to some. She of course dislikes the light and the summer heat and thus envelop herself in a big ball of darkness.
But because of this, she makes herself a poor hunter in general as in most well lit areas your bound to see a giant black ball flying in the sky roaming aimlessly. And so it's probably a good sign that you should steer clear of the black ball of darkness.
But to make it even worse, Rumia can't see at all when she chooses to evelop herself in the darkness, As it makes her blind and has a tendency to run into things like trees while trying to fly.
Otherwise, she is simply your standard youkai on the most part to say the least.
Fanon wise, Rumia is often protrayed as a goofball or just being downright cute. And thanks to her phase in EoSD where she says "Is that so?" at one point, she has gained her own attention for that simple phrase alone. So your bound to see fans have her say that...often. Otherwise most things about Rumia are protrayed in the same way as they were in her game apperance.
Another note is that ZUN explains that the ribbon on her head may be an amulet that was place on her to seal away the true extent of her power. And that removing it would cause terrible things to happen. But after EoSD ZUN never really put any focus on that matter... but that doesn't let the fans not try to imagine something.
Fanon wise, fans sometimes want to find a way to remove that ribbon create a darker and more sinister version of Rumia that fans reffer to as "EX-Rumia". Course all interpretations vary as their is no true indication if this is even or not anymore... but it does lead to a lot of creativity.
But anyways, this summarizes Rumia pretty much. Next time, I'll proceed on and discuss about Cirno, the stage two boss of EoSD and eventually reoccuring charater within the series.
Till next time.
