"Rants" by Romy
(2003-03-16)

There are actually J-pop music groups in Japan who dress up elaborately. This could be one of them although I think their costumes are much more ornate than this. Anyway, this guy is in a clown costume.

I noticed that I draw things quite impromptu. I do make a rough sketch, but when I actually do the cleanups, I decide what to do with the details, etc. For instance, the legs were not on the first sketch. I drew the guy too low, so I had to add other papers to really have his legs drawn.

I wasn't intending to draw a clown, but when I put my pencil down, some weird headset came out. So I decided to make him a clown. I didn't really think up carefully about how his outfit is made. I just left it to my intuitions. I'm happy with the end result though.

It's one of the reasons why I think I'm more suited for illustrations rather than manga. But I should get better at being able to draw ?what needs to be drawn" instead of just some impromptu. It's kind of fun though.
