Experimental Comic Kotone #455 "Laika 23"
(Story Arc: Laika story arc)

Comic Strip

"Laika 23" by Akira
(2006-04-26)

I draw this strip as a small comic relief... I draw an onsen scene, as I promised long long time ago. I hope you enjoyed it.

Male manga artists are destined to draw onsen scenes somewhere in his manga. You can't get away from this FATE/SAGA... Anyway, I referenced "Love Hina" for this onsen scene. "Love Hina" was filled with unnecessary nudities and ecchi accidents, but it's a destiny.

I tried to ink/finish the page yesterday (12/27 Thursday), but I had so much work to do... I came home around 0:40 am, and didn't have enough guts to do anything. I'll fininish the pages sometimes nexe week when I have a week long vacation.

Please write your comment to this strip at pOnju forum

"Revolution is no more....we can call it Wii!" by Totaku
(2006-04-29)

Well, I'm sorry for the long delay this week, I had been going through alot of work for the last few weeks and I became very exausted. I unfortinatly was un able write my rant because I felt like I was just going to colapse that day....but now I feel better so I can now talk about my stuff for this week

First off, we can begin by talking about a video game related topic. For all you gamers out there, you probably know about next gen systems that are fixing to come out we already have the Xbox 360, PS3 is slowing taking shape and the Nintendo Revolution is fixing to emerge.

But just recentlly, Nintendo brought out some interesting news....they have released the offical name for thier system. Formallly this was known as the Revolution but it was only a test title for what they eveutally will call it. As of 2 days ago, Nintendo announce that the the name of the new system will offically be call....Wii....

Now personally, I donno about you, but to me the title sound a bit redicullous even for nintendo to pull a move like this one. We know that Nintendo has been a good console for a long time but every title for thier product seem to fit thier product too (at least to me)...However to me thte title we sound like a joke. I can't exactly see how nintendo's marketing statagy is going work for the title wii. Already people are making "wii" jokes on the internet and I find them pretty halarious. Personally, I say that if Nintendo has a good market of games on thier side, maybe the title Wii doesn't matter. But then...you never know. If your truly curious feel free to go to here and see for yourself.

It seems lately that all 3 next gen systems already have big weakness even though they haven't all come out. X box 360 has it's faulty hardwear issue that won't garunttee that it'll last forever (if not long (or at least that was the case when it first came out) PS3 has been perdicited to have an enormous pricetag behind it. And now Wii.....well the title say it all. Definetely this will be hard for me to perdict which system will be the dominate leader for this genration. But....if my sourse say right...My guess is this will PS3 and Wii's battle this time. Wil see though once the other systems launch....

As for anime news, well, I don't have much on this end but I donno how many people know about it either, but sort like how Eureka 7 came here to the US and is now on Adult Swim, there's another anime coming from Japan to the US soon....Those of you that know the anime Bleach, it has linscened by Viz and should be on CN this fall during the Adult Swim hour. Should be pretty good since I had my share of watching bleach at the anime club. ^_^ I just wonder how the dub voices will sound....

And to finally top it off....lemme give you this lovely flash to look at. If there were people out here who been collecting the Eureka 7 from Japan or the like you might find this flash funny. XD Eureka 7 Renton meme flash To make this story short....during a later part of Eureka 7 Renton makes a very unual facial expression during one episdoe and this expression sort of caught the eye of 2ch-ians pretty much.....you can say this flash is one of many result of just how strange 2ch people can be. XD

This covers all for this week as for now I'm got one week left and I shall be going on a month long vacation so don't expect me to return to rant for a while. But I'll shall return here to a little more longer. Just to let you alll know I managed to win a scholarship offer here at the University. ^__^ And I will be presented it this Teusday in the art gallery during the senior show. ^_^ And if you want to talk about what I've already spoke about here or have questions or other stuff like that...feel free drop a message at the forum.
Until next time
Ja matta. ^__^

"Season's Recommendations" by Konstantin
(2006-05-01)

So with most of the early subs watched, and the new season finishing off its first month, I think it's about time to make a final decision on what shows to watch, what shows to drop, and what shows to kill with fire. With the season being as prolific as it is, I had to be a bit stricter than usual in my culling. Typically I watch all A and B-grade shows and dip into the Cs when there's nothing better to do, but this time around I find myself dropping solid B- shows just to make room for all the A-grade goodness. So without further ado, in rough order preference, here are my personal recommendations for the season.

The As

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu
Ouran Koukou Host-bu
School Rumble 2 Gakki
Black Lagoon
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Utawarerumono

I'd call this the Season of the Two Haruhis, if there weren't so many other great shows competing for my praise and attention. I think any show listed above is worth not just a watch but a buy, and hopefully all of these will make it over to R1 DVD sooner rather than later. Suzumiya Haruhi in particular seems to have touched off an online sensation, and stands a good chance of becoming a legendary show if it continues delivering the awesome performance it has been so far.

The Bs

Renkin 3kyu Magical? Pokaan
Nana
xxxHolic
Yumetsukai

These are all potentially solid shows, though they don't quite have me waiting as impatiently for the next speedsub the way the previous set does. MagiPokan is the mother of all guilty pleasures, Nana may well be a shoujo classic in the making but the character designs spoil it a bit for me, and both xxxHolic and Yumetsukai are promising to be fun but not particularly spectacular.

The Cs

The Third
Zegapain
Kiba
Girl's High
Princess Princess
Disgaea

These shows failed to make my to-watch list because they were either well-executed but too generic (The Third, Zegapain, Kiba), poor executions of promising concepts (Girl's High fails for gratuitous and unattractive fanservice, Disgaea fails for being a cheap and shoddy adaptation of a legendary game), or just not being my genre (though for a show about guys who dress up as girls, Princess Princess is remarkably watchable ^^;)

*PLONK*

Simoun
Soul Link
Gakuen Heaven

These shows aren't just not good enough, they are in my opinion, quite bad. Simoun tries to hide its blatant attempt to cash in on the yuri craze (not that there's anything wrong with that, when done right) behind needless complexity and confusing technobabble, Soul Link is just poorly made and generic, and Gakuen Heaven is the shounen ai equivalent of the generic harem show.

"A dark tell of a little village" by Totaku
(2006-05-04)

Ok, this is the end of school for me for this sememster. As for right now, I'm trying to see if I can do something about Summer Classes. I donno what will be happening over the next few weeks, but I'll be updating less as for now.

Anyways today's rant is on an anime I took the time to sit down and watch recently. You've probably heard of this from several people or maybe Konstantin, but this title is known as Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.

The main focus on the anime deals about this boy named Keiichi who just recently transffered to a school in a remote village in Japan. Life was going good for him as well as he made several new friend (mainly all girls) but what he doesn't know is that this village has a dark past to it that he would unfortinately learn about over time. The myth is the village was once going to be taken out by a construnction of a dam taking place near the village, but while the villagers retaleated and stoped the project, several lives were lost.....but one thing has happened since that event.....every year on the night of the ceremony.....someone dies that has connections related to the people who were planning to construct the dam.....

When Keichii learns about these facts from a police officer who invesitaging the place...it wouldn't be long before Keiichi's would end up facing things he will eventually reget seeing.....cause he learns there's more to the village than meets the eye....and on top of that....the killer who's been killing the people.....is it human....supernatural....or something else alltogether......

This anime sort of starts out on a spooky note, but then becomes all cute for a while.....but don't expect the anime to remain cute for long.....cause you will become scared....very scared eventally.

The anime is very spooky and some of the really insane stuff doesn't begin to occure till episode 4. By then you should be hooked to it. This anime is a horror/mystery type anime and anyone who into some gruesome Japanese horror I'd reccommend seeing Higurashi.

As Konstantin said, this is A anime material here.

I know my rant is brief but I have to head out.....until the next time I have to come over and rant some more....
Ja Matta. ^_^

"Finished Inking Pages..." by Akira
(2006-05-06)

It took quite a long time, but I "finally" finished inking all unfinished pages. The picture is the proof. I also refined the lines of already inked pages too.

Also I outlined next 12 pages, so I should able to upload the comic strips without much problem (hopefully three strips per week)... But the story is going very slow. This arc might take more than 60 pages. I'm little afraid readers might get really bored....

"Honey and Clover" by Akira
(2006-05-07)

I borrowed eight volumes of Umino Chica's "Honey and Clover" from my friend and finished reading them tonight. It was really good. The manga was filled with heart-warming stories and comical scenes (I especially loved Father's day head bread joke). Anime followed the manga quite closely up to volume seven. It was nice to know what happened after the first anime series. I can't wait for the next volume of manga (#9) to come out. But I wonder when that will happen...

The sequel "Honey and Clover II" will be aired in Japan this summer in "Jyuohsei" time slot (I'm not saying I'm waiting for the series to end soon ^_^;). Also the live action movie "Honey and Clover" will be premire soon, but I'm sure I will not go to the movie theater for this (along with "Death Note")... -_-;
